ASTM A179 G Type Embedded Aluminum Finned Tubes (Base Tube A179 + AL Fins)


Product Introduction


Embedded Finned Tubes (G Type) are high-efficiency heat transfer components widely used in air-cooled heat exchangers and other industrial thermal systems. Manufactured with seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel ASTM A179 / SA179 as the base tube and high-conductivity aluminum (typically AL1060 or AL1100) fins mechanically embedded into helical grooves on the tube surface, these tubes significantly increase the heat exchange surface area while maintaining excellent thermal contact and mechanical integrity.

The G Type (Embedded) design provides superior fin retention under high temperatures and thermal cycling compared to wrapped or welded alternatives, making it ideal for demanding industrial environments with operating temperatures up to 400°C (752°F).

Finned Tube Structure and Manufacturing Process


The embedded (G Type) finned tube consists of three main elements:


  • Base Tube: Seamless ASTM A179 carbon steel tube providing structural strength and pressure resistance.
  • Fins: Aluminum strip wound spirally and locked into the tube.
  • Embedding Process: A precise helical groove (approx. 0.25–0.40 mm deep) is machined into the base tube. The aluminum fin strip is tension-wound into the groove under controlled force. The groove shoulders are then rolled back over the fin base, creating a strong mechanical lock by back-filling with the base tube material. This results in excellent bonding strength (typically ≥70N pull force) and low thermal contact resistance.


This process ensures fins remain firmly attached even under vibration, thermal expansion, and high-temperature conditions.
