ASME SB168 is the standard specification in ASME for "nickel-chromium-iron alloy plates, sheets, and strips," which can be used to manufacture pressure equipment requiring ASME certification, such as boilers, pressure vessels, and nuclear power plant components. UNS N06617 is the unified numbering system code for this alloy, which is most widely known internationally as Inconel 617 or Alloy 617.


N06617 is a nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy that achieves its superior performance through solid solution strengthening. Its core advantages are:

  1. Unparalleled high-temperature strength and creep resistance: This is the most prominent feature of N06617 nickel-based alloy plates. At temperatures up to 1100°C, N06617 plates exhibit exceptional creep and stress-fracture resistance, maintaining extremely high mechanical strength. This makes it an ideal choice for long-term operation under extreme temperature and high-stress environments.
  2. Excellent oxidation and carburization resistance: The high chromium content forms a dense and stable chromium oxide protective film on the surface of the N06617 nickel-based alloy plate. Aluminum further enhances its oxidation resistance and effectively resists carbon penetration, preventing material embrittlement.
  3. Excellent corrosion resistance: N06617 nickel-based alloy plates exhibit good resistance to various corrosive media, including high-temperature sulfides and molten salts such as vanadates.
  4. Good machinability and weldability: N06617 nickel-based alloy plates have good toughness and formability in the annealed state and can be cold-worked (but require high power). They can also be welded using conventional welding methods (such as TIG and MIG), with stable post-weld performance.
