It is the authoritative material standard for the manufacture of pressure-bearing carbon steel forged pipe fittings (especially flanges). It ensures that forgings have excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, good processability and weldability by stipulating strict chemical composition, heat treatment systems such as normalizing or quenching + tempering, and mechanical properties such as strength, plasticity, and hardness.

Pipe fittings under this standard must also meet the shape, size and pressure rating requirements of ASME B16.11. SA105 pipe fittings are widely used in non-corrosive environments with medium to high temperatures and medium to high pressures due to their reliability and cost-effectiveness. They are the basic materials for pressure piping systems in many industrial fields such as petroleum, chemical, electric power, and shipbuilding.
